Nathan will be running a workshop and presenting a paper at the Biodiversity Offsetting for Mining, Infrastructure & Urban Development conference.  The conference will focus on changes to policy, the current offsetting approach across Australia and ways to improve the delivery of offsets for mining, infrastructure and urban development in New South Wales and across Australia.  Nathan's workshop and presentation will focus on the assessment and offsetting of indirect impacts in uncertain environments, addressing a key policy gap.

Nathan is presenting a second paper at the Ecological Consultants Association of NSW annual conference, titled Using LiDAR to assess subsidence impacts on upland wetland vegetation of the NSW southern coalfields.  Remote sensing techniques are the forefront of ecological surveys, assessment and monitoring and the novel and innovative methodology that was applied during this project for the assessment of impacts upland swamps was praised by the NSW Department of Planning and Environment as "the most comprehensive swamp impact assessment yet undertaken in the Southern Coalfield".  This use of this new technology is not just limited to mining projects, and can be used to good effect in many situations across a range of environments.

Nathan has a long association with, and detailed understanding of, the intersection of land development, including mining, with environmental legislation requirements.  The use of new technology, such as remotely sensed LiDAR data, for ecological investigations adds another string to his bow and is an advantage for our clients.
