With more than 15 years’ experience in zoology, ecology and impact assessment, Mark has the experience and understanding of the key requirements to deliver complex projects. He is skilled in development of assessment methodologies and impact minimisation and possesses a strong understanding of state and federal legislation. He works closely with internal and external clients to identify and resolve issues in a timely and cost-effective manner.
Mark has pursued an interest in the natural environment from an early age and has participated in ecological work throughout his life. He completed his Bachelor degree (Hons) in 2000. His honours work focused on landscape ecology of Victoria’s Box-Ironbark region and habitat changes affecting many of the threatened species dependent on the region. While studying he carried out work for the Department of Sustainability and Environment monitoring the threatened Baw Baw Frog.
Mark joined Biosis in 2001 and quickly progressed to the position of Consultant Zoologist where he worked on and managed numerous projects, including large infrastructure projects. In 2008 Mark was promoted to Senior Consultant Zoologist having further honed his project management skills and in 2012 he became the Team Leader Zoology in the Melbourne office. Mark manages the Zoology team across our Victorian offices, focusing on resourcing, staffing, quality assurance and client development.
Mark has appeared as an expert witness before Planning Panels Victoria and contributed and managed several EES level projects, including Peninsula Link, several wind energy projects and other large infrastructure approvals in Victoria.
Mark was on the organising committee for the first Australian ‘Wind and Wildlife’ conference held in 2012 in Melbourne. He also maintains strong links into the bat research community in both Australia and abroad and has specialist skills in assessing bat issues, particularly as they relate to wind energy.
