Maya Rychner Joins VPELA YPG Committee

Biosis is excited to announce that Graduate Environmental Planner Maya Rychner has joined the VPELA Young Professional Group (YPG) committee in 2025.

Maya has been an active attendee of YPG events throughout her past year at Biosis, and was motivated to get more involved after experiencing the positive, inclusive environment the group creates. “Starting out in the industry can feel overwhelming,” she said. “YPG plays an important role in helping young professionals build a network, connect with peers, and feel supported as they find their place in the field.”

Maya is particularly looking forward to contributing to the organisation of the Nexus Ball (one of the biggest events on the YPG calendar), and strengthening connections across the planning and environmental sectors through partnerships with groups like the Planning Institute of Australia and The Urban Development Institute of Australia.

“Young professionals have a vital role to play in shaping the future of our industry,” Maya said. “We’re facing complex challenges, from biodiversity loss to climate change, and we need new ideas, fresh thinking, and cross-disciplinary collaboration. Groups like YPG help create the space for that to happen.”

While Maya’s long-term career path is still evolving, she’s currently enjoying the diverse and meaningful work she undertakes at Biosis, particularly in the emerging field of nature positive planning.

Her involvement in YPG is an opportunity to contribute to the industry and build lasting professional connections that will support her journey.

This year marks Biosis’ ninth consecutive year as a sponsor of the VPELA YPG, and we’re proud to see that ongoing commitment reflected in Maya’s appointment to the committee. We’re excited to support her as she takes on this role and look forward to the contribution she’ll make to the group and the broader young professionals’ community.
