Biosis joins APEM Group

We are excited to announce that Biosis has joined APEM Group; a global environmental consultancy headquartered in the United Kingdom.

Biosis is the first Australian company to join the group and the seventh acquisition APEM Group has made since 2021.

Biosis CEO, Aaron Harvey, said the move is a positive step for the business.

“We are thrilled to be joining APEM Group and excited about the great opportunities this move will provide for our team and our clients. After 40 years of successful operation under employee ownership, Biosis will benefit greatly from APEM Group’s desire to invest in and grow the business.

Like APEM Group, Biosis is driven by a culture of technical excellence and quality work, and we are glad to be joining a team that shares our commitment to delivering the best for our clients and the environment.”

The acquisition supports APEM Group’s international expansion strategy with a focus on Australia as a key territory for growth and a gateway to further supporting clients in the Asia-Pacific region.

APEM Group CEO, Leah McGimpsey, said:

“I am delighted to welcome Biosis to APEM Group. As one of Australia’s leading ecology and heritage consultants, Biosis’ commitment to science, data and exceptional client service aligns with our Group ethos.

Bringing Biosis into the Group is an important step in delivering our people strategy to build great teams where colleagues can work together across the Group to collaborate on new and exciting opportunities, learn from each other and to develop and expand their careers.

Biosis joining the Group truly transforms our ability to serve clients locally in Australia. With 150 new colleagues across nine offices, this acquisition brings national ecology, botany, zoology and heritage capabilities into the Group that will benefit our clients in Australia, giving the Group significant in-country presence and accelerating our growth strategy in Asia-Pacific.”

Darroch Baker, Managing Director, Water & Land Environmental Services at APEM Group, added:

“I am pleased to welcome Aaron and the team at Biosis to the APEM Group. With an enviable market reputation for their ecology and heritage work, the team at Biosis will be an excellent addition to the Group and further strengthen our existing GIS and planning capabilities.

Bringing local ecological and heritage knowledge on the ground in Australia is a big win for our clients and gives more opportunities for colleagues to collaborate on delivering client work and cross-selling the breadth and depth of the Group’s services. I’m really looking forward to working with Aaron and the Biosis leadership team to drive our ambitions in Australia forward.”

Since 2021, APEM Group has completed seven acquisitions, supported by private equity firm WestBridge, cementing their strategy of growth and international expansion.

Pete Barkley, Partner at Westbridge, said:

“This is a significant transaction that transforms APEM Group into a truly global environmental consultant. Biosis brings new capabilities to the Group and access to clients in key Australian markets.

This sets up the Group well for further significant growth in Australia and accelerates delivery of the international growth plan. Leah and her Leadership Team continue to add complementary businesses that share a commitment to science led, data enabled environmental solutions, growing the business at pace and scale.”
